Cleansing the temple...

The Lord has entered Jerusalem, willingly, in obedience.  His crucifixion and resurrection are just days away.

He has wept over Jerusalem.  "If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace!  But now they are hidden from your eyes."  Luke 19:42~  He is heartbroken... they do not recognize Him.  They have spent their lives studying God's word, the Torah, that is FULL of hints and signs and dates of His arrival... yet they don't see Him.

And to top it off, He goes to His Father's temple, the dwelling place of God, and it is being defiled with common selling and trading of goods.  Holy has been made common... unholy... tainted.  And He does what we should do today... He casts it out without apology.  God is holy and tainting His holiness can not be tolerated.  In just a few days, the veil of the temple, seperating God from man, will be torn in two... God will become accessible... the Holy of Holies will allow us in His presence because of His son's presence inside us... standing in for us with His righteousness!  Can you really soak that in?

Our bodies are now the temple in which God dwells as believers.

"Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?"  1 Corinthians 3:16~

"Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?  For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your Spirit which are God's." 1 Corinthians 6:19,20~

The temple needs to be cleansed.  We are the temple.  How have we made our worship common... the opposite of holy?  How have we made God common?  How have we tainted the temple?  What have we brought into the temple that does not belong there, in God's presence?  Have we ignored the very presence dwelling inside us?  What do we need to ask for Jesus to cleanse?  These are wonderful questions to ask ourselves today... and every day.  And the Lord is there... and He will cleanse.
